On 16th May 2023, the Prime Minister and DEFRA Secretary met with representatives from across the whole UK’s food supply chain at their ‘Farm to Fork‘ summit.
Food retailers, manufacturers, and farmers were invited to discuss how to support the UK’s food industry. Topics covered included tackling food price inflation, the importance of food security, and the roll out of the new Environmental Land Management Schemes (ELMS) for farmers.
The summit has received a mixed response and comes after DEFRA drops plans to develop a horticulture strategy. Sustain, along with a number of other food organisations, released a joint statement about the summit.
