The Co-op to sell food products after ‘best before’ date in some Devon stores

As part of The Waste Reduction Scheme, The Co-op plans to sell food produce after it’s ‘best before’ date at 100 stores in the South of England.

Co-op stores in Exeter, Exmouth and Crediton will be part of this scheme.

The Waste Reduction Scheme aims to keep as much produce as possible in the food chain and reduce the amount sent off for anaerobic digestion, as ‘best before’ dates does not relate to the safety of the food item.

In addition, The Co-op has launched 100 community fridges across the UK in 2021 as part of The Waste Reduction Scheme.
