The Government has published a response to the National Food Strategy

The Government has responded to the National Food Strategy which was published in July 2021. The National Food strategy contained 14 recommendations to better the current food system.

The Government’s response includes:

  • A commitment to a land use strategy by 2023
  • A consultation on mandatory reporting by industry on health, and ‘explore’ the same on environment and animal welfare
  • A consultation on public food procurement, with the goal of 50% local or higher standard food

However, the response has been criticised as little is said about food insecurity as a result of the cost-of living crisis.
